Participants Needed for Psychological Study

In cooperation with Lower Columbia College, Dr. Stephen Meharg and Dr. Loretta Bolyard of Northwest Psychological Resources are conducting a psychological study, and need healthy volunteers to participate.

We are studying how personality tests can be used when assessing people who have medical inclipboardjuries.  Participants would be given instructions and then fill out some short forms and a personality questionnaire AS IF you are a person who was recently injured on the job and applying for disability benefits based on your injury.  Your answers on the test will be based on your prediction about how an injured person seeking payment for their condition would respond to the test items.   It should take about 60-90 minutes.  You can refuse to participate at any time without penalty.

People can participate who meet these qualifications:

  • Age 18 - 65
  • In good general health, and not suffering from chronic pain or untreated mental disorder
  • Not receiving disability payments from any source (i.e., SSD/SSI, L&I, etc.) or in the process of applying for disability or worker’s compensation benefits.  (GAU and TANF are OK)
  • Reading level at or above 7th grade level.  We can test you if needed, but if you can read this, you’re probably good to go!
  • Ability to read print, operate a pencil to mark responses, and can sit for up to 90 minutes

We cannot pay you for participating.  However, four $50 gift certificates will be given out to people who provide the most convincing test results, along with fun, randomly-selected door prizes for everyone participating.  Some instructors may offer extra credit for participating.  We encourage you to ask your instructor if they are willing to do this.  We will provide you an official certificate of participation.

We need up to 100 people.  Feel free to invite other friends or family members that meet the above criteria.  We will try to get a room at the college and meet as a group.

The full consent form you will be asked to read and sign at the time of participation can be viewed HERE.
